How Much Income Tax on a Rs 75,000 Monthly Salary (2026-27)

Zaffre Tech · June 16, 2026

A Rs 75,000 monthly salary puts you just inside the first taxable slab under Finance Act 2026. The good news: the tax is small. Zaffre Tech shows the exact calculation for 2026-27.

From monthly to annual

Tax is computed on annual taxable salary: Rs 75,000 x 12 = Rs 900,000 a year. That falls in the 600,001 - 1,200,000 band, taxed at 1% of the amount above Rs 600,000.

The relevant slabs

Annual taxable income (Rs)Tax
Up to 600,0000%
600,001 - 1,200,0001% of amount over 600,000

Step by step

  • Annual taxable salary: Rs 900,000
  • Amount over Rs 600,000: Rs 300,000
  • Tax at 1%: Rs 3,000 per year
  • Monthly income tax: Rs 3,000 / 12 = Rs 250

Effective rate is tiny

Annual tax of Rs 3,000 on Rs 900,000 is an effective rate of about 0.33%. The first Rs 600,000 remains tax-free; only the Rs 300,000 above it is taxed, and only at 1%. This is the benefit of a progressive system - low earners carry a very light load.

Marginal vs effective

Your marginal rate here is 1% - the rate on your next rupee of income. Your effective rate, the share of total salary paid as tax, is far lower because most of your income sits in the zero band. Understanding this difference helps you judge how a raise affects take-home pay.

Mind the allowances

Most allowances are fully taxable and count toward the Rs 900,000. Medical allowance is exempt up to 10% of basic salary under Clause 139 of the Second Schedule where free medical cover is not separately provided. Employer provident fund is exempt up to the lower of 10% of basic or Rs 150,000 a year. These reliefs can keep your taxable figure - and your Rs 250 monthly tax - even lower.

Accurate payroll for low earners too

Small amounts still need to be deducted correctly and reported to FBR. Zaffre Axon and the Zaffre HRM payroll module apply the slabs automatically, splitting the Rs 600,000 exempt portion from the taxed excess, and handle EOBI under the EOBI Act 1976.
